I have always known there are local people out there who support a greener, more sustainable tourism agenda but they have to keep their heads down.
How nice to read this message from a local well wisher recently “Zaman zaman çevreci yazılarını takip ettiğim, Kaş ve Kalkan sahillerindeki kaçak yapılaşmaya karşı duruş sergileyen sevgili doğa sever dostuma…”
Roughly translates “To my nature loving brother taking a stand against illegal construction along the Kaş Kalkan coast, whose occasional posts I follow..”
He attached an article from a Turkish Online Magazine. I have painstakingly translated it in to English or you can follow the link to the original underneath
For his and all of our sakes please read this thought provoking and brave journalism

Thank you.
Unfortunately this is very true. If rental owners had to have a special license like in many European countries, showing they have a legally built property with insurance, basic health and safety standards met, then this might help stop illegal building for rent. No license ability would mean no rental. Rental without a license could not only mean a fine but potential prison time. If they can’t control building they need to find a way to control what is fuelling it.
You are absolutely right. It would not be difficult to control rental agencies and prevent the rental of unlicensed building. A LOT of money is involved however and there would probably be unexpected consequences. However, it should be done. Some of the fine money must go to strengthening the planning department
This is tragic. The region is killing the goose that lays the golden egg.
